Back in 2006, the Financial Services Authority restricted freight forwarders from selling insurance unless they took up full registration with their body. This month, September 2007, the Insurance Mediation Directive Exemption for Freight Forwarders has now come into force. This means that we are now able to offer All Risks Insurance to our commercial clients.
Please remember that we do have Goods in Transit insurance which does provide insurance cover in the event of damage or less. For European road freight this cover is limited to 8.33 SDR’s per kilo, which is currently equating to £6.78 per kilo. UK road freight is carried according to RHA conditions, £1300 per tonne liability and container freight according to BIFA conditions, 2 SDR’S, approximately £1.63 per kilo.
